A day full of skills and creativity
Hospitality education is about more than classroom learning—it’s about applying knowledge, refining skills, and showcasing talent in real-world settings. At Deutsche Hotelschule El Gouna (GHS), students have the opportunity to demonstrate their expertise through competitions that highlight their training, creativity, and professionalism. Recently, our students participated in the barista and cocktail competition, organized by Orascom Hotels Management, an event that brought together young talents eager to impress with their skills, precision, and creativity.
This competition was not just a test of technical ability; it was an opportunity for students to learn, adapt, and showcase the passion that drives them in hospitality. From perfecting espresso shots to creating balanced, visually appealing non-alcoholic cocktails, the day reflected the high standards and dedication instilled in every GHS student.
Two exciting rounds of competition
Round one: barista skills
The first round of the barista and cocktail competition focused on barista skills. Students demonstrated their ability to craft coffee beverages with precision, care, and attention to detail. Every shot of espresso, every latte art design, and every brewed coffee reflected their training in the art and science of coffee-making.
This round was designed to test not only technical skills but also creativity and presentation. Students learned to balance flavor, temperature, and aesthetic appeal, showing that barista work requires both meticulous attention and a sense of artistry. The judges evaluated their precision, consistency, and ability to create beverages that delighted both the eyes and the palate.
Round two: cocktail mixing skills
In the second round in of the barista and cocktail competition, students showcased their cocktail mixing skills, focusing on non-alcoholic creations. This emphasis on non-alcoholic beverages allowed students to demonstrate technique, flavor balance, and presentation without relying on alcohol.
Mixology in hospitality is a combination of science, art, and hospitality service. Students experimented with flavors, textures, and visual presentation, proving that a great cocktail is more than ingredients—it is a crafted experience for guests. This round highlighted their creativity, understanding of flavor profiles, and ability to execute drinks that meet professional standards.
Four students qualify for the finals of the barista and cocktail competition
We are proud to share that four of our students qualified for the finals of the competition. Their performance was a reflection of the training, dedication, and passion for hospitality.
Qualifying for the finals of the barista and cocktail competition is a significant achievement. It shows that GHS students not only master technical skills but also excel under pressure, perform with confidence, and represent the school with professionalism. These students exemplify the high standards of Deutsche Hotelschule El Gouna, demonstrating what it means to combine knowledge, skill, and creativity in hospitality practice.
The importance of non-alcoholic creations
One unique aspect of this competition was that all cocktails prepared by our students were non-alcoholic. This allowed them to focus on technique, flavor balance, and presentation—the elements that form the foundation of professional mixology.
Creating non-alcoholic cocktails challenges students to think critically about ingredient combinations, textures, and aesthetics. It also reflects the increasing demand for inclusive, innovative beverages in hospitality venues worldwide. By mastering non-alcoholic creations, GHS students prepare for versatile careers where they can delight a wide range of guests.
Representing GHS with dedication and excellence
The barista and cocktail competition highlighted not only technical skill but also dedication, creativity, and professionalism. Our students represented Deutsche Hotelschule El Gouna with pride, showcasing what makes GHS education unique: a combination of hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities to excel in real-world hospitality environments.
